Tender Mercies

I am thankful for the tender mercies in all of our lives.  As I reflect back over the years of my and my family's lives there are too many to name them all.  The apostles however have admonished us to look for the Lord's hand in our lives and to make record of them and to tell the stories to our children and grandchildren.
I re tell the  story each Jan about a time when the Lord gave Protection to Bryan  as he was homeward bound from Alpine.  He had been at Brianne's home and then was traveling along 7th west and as he approached 6400 S he was broadsided by a vehicle (Tahoa) it was no match for his car.
(actually it was Brianne's new car just off the sales lot).  He was struck so hard that it pushed in the passenger side, then the vehicle went up particially over the top of Bryan's car.  leaving no room for anyone except a very small place where Bryan sat.  He very nearly was pushed into a large pole, but missed that and was pushed into the fence of the golf course.  He surely was protected at that time.  The policeman told us, they approached the scene expecting to find fatality.  The were happy they did not.  They spoke of the accident for weeks after, among themselves at the station, one officer later told us.
They spoke of it for many reasons.  But mostly because it was so astounding to them that Bryan survived, the impact.  They didn't have to cut him out of the car, because the side of the car was ripped open, at the time of the impact.  We were called from the hospital by the police officer telling us that Bryan was there.  We drove quickly there and found him laying in a neck brace and clearly  misrable from the pain.
(the following to me is the most memorial part of the experience that night)  It was not long after we arrived at the hospital that the boy who was (drinking &) driving  asked if he could enter Bryan's room?. ? Normally the hospital policy is to  attend to the patients involved separately as not to have them have to interact.  Bryan said yes.  The boy apologized.  Saying he was not even looking forward as he drove, but rather looking over his should to see if another car load of boys were chasing him.
when he hit bryan he said he didn't even brake, as he wasn't looking.  He asked if Bryan would forgive him.?  as Bryan lay there with glass throughout his hair and a neck brace (waiting for results of exrays) and pretty banged up from head to toe.  He looked that boy in the eye and said, "it was a bad deal the three of those cars being the only ones out at the intersection at that moment, and he was regretful he was there, but YES of course he would forgive him, (as the scripture in Nephi said,"He frankly forgave them")  It was a very tender moment for that boy, not to have to carry that burden.  It was a tender moment for all of us.
In the mean time back at the home of Brianne's family.  She had a strange feeling that she should pray for Bryan's protection.  She did so.  We called her and let her know what had happened.  She was by Bryan's side of a very long recovery for days.   He was able to get off the pain meds rather soon, comb all the glass out of his hair, heal from the bruises, stitches, and eventually make a marriage proposal to Brianne and they have been happily married now for these many years. (8) and are the parents of three cute kids.  Each year (and many times inbetween as I pass that intersection often) I think of this story.

I also think of the many other times of protection.  Brad not drowning in a lake at the ski resort after falling through the ice on a cold winter day.  Hayley and kerri and  Brad and Nancy all hiking stairway to Heaven at different times and being safe on that hike.  Many other incidents not just involving travel.
Answers to prayers have come.  People have been put in our paths.  Buying homes at the right time has happened.  Getting Jobs that were suited to each of us has happened.  Feeling the Holy Ghost prompt us to do or not do things has happened.  The Lord's hand is surely blessing us each daily.  I hope that we all see and recognize it and talk to our kids about it, even if  the situation is not as intense as the Mercy on Jan of 2005.  As the Hymn says.  "God be with you till we Meet again"  Dad and I pray for each of you, every night before dinner.  We feel of your prayers in our lives as well.  love ya.
