Bethany Hamilton: Shark Attack--The Real Story

we saw the movie soul surfer about a girl who learns to surf again after loosing her arm--it was inspirational to me

memorial day weekend

Dear family
Sat dad and I went to Midway and Heber and visited our parents graves. Sunday we attended
church and rested. Mon we made pancakes, took a walk at the Murray Park--looking at the flooding situation. we also cleaned out a cupboard, cooked up some meat on the bar-b-que, and took some thank you notes and rolls around to folks who helped with the reception. It was a good weekend. We talked about our parents and what wonderful people they were. All of them faithful in their beliefs of the gospel. All of them great teachers to their children. and:
*funny--good sense of humor
*dedicated to providing for their families
*good company to be around
*family oriented, with their own families and their extended families
*open to having people stay at their homes
*friendly to others
*just plain good.
I hope by us sharing some of these attributes--they come alive a little more in your minds, its always a challenge to know your parents and to know your kids and bring them together, since they don't know each other that well, but we have eternities to do that I guess and they are going to love you and you are going to love them, I feel certain.

the truck has always been a favorite

dear family it always amazes me how much the grandkid love grandpa's white truck--they just love it and I always chuckle, to see the delight they find in taking the truck places

year end programs

Dear family one of my most favorite things about spring is the year end (school/dance/pre school year end) programs and dance performances they all tickle us--not pictured--Anna read a story she had written, mayley sang and said an individual part, and lastly preview of upcoming dance recital June (taken at the dance class)

when it's spring time in the Rockies

dear family--there's an old song my dad used to sing to me--when it spring time in the rockies--I'll be coming home to you...
Spring is slow in coming this year--but don't the Mts look fantastic!!!? wow....
I couldn't wait to for spring to break to 'come to you" so this past week when I didn't have school or substitute teaching--I found my way to Tooele and to Spanish Fork to play with the grand kids. It is so much fun to have that time with them and they say the cutest things. I really enjoyed myself visiting and just hanging out with them and being together. then Hayley had time to come home for a bit and cut our hair and visit. then we got to talk to kaci on the phone and hear about the things they are doing--and so the week was such a terrific one
it had just a few downs and lots of ups
the ups to elaborate on what I said above were
going visiting: part of those visits included:
*saw anna read her story in her first grade program...and watched a slide show-and swam with the kids a different day. Megan let me read books to her and kyle, played blocks with me.
*we will see mayley tonight--graduate from her pre school and meet her teacher Mrs Patricia
last week when I was in Tooele--we took her to her last pre school and we went to Macey's and hunter and i played the ice breaker game while she was at school and the baby was cooing.
-the downs were: hayley getting a flat tire on her car and one down was dad called and had me come pick him up as he has a flat on his bike clear up by 3300 south. now he is out in the garage patching that flat. and its Sat so I'd better get to cleaning and doing Sat chores. I've taken a lot of days "off" getting my health back after last weeks surgery and now I'm great!!!

The wedding quilt --resurfaces

Dear family--don't think that I've forgotten about being 'old school' and having the Bride and groom have a quilt. I made this awhile back so when that sealing day arrived this wedding quilt would be ready and waiting
Hayley saw it a few Christmas seasons ago--but I wanted to post it again for those of you who might not have seen it or may have forgotten the 'ramblin' rose--pattern quilt as it is called for the type of material used. the squares are some designs from a quilting class and half of them are a 'log cabin pattern' then it is machine quilted over all. I am happy they wanted to use it.
and they (Joe and Hayley) loved it. That is my last quilt of my life..for weddings. now I just have the baptismal quilts and then we'll end my quilt career-- all the piecing and stitches I always say are stitched of love-

we have a garden to pray over...the garden is planed and growing...

Dear family--its tells in the scriptures in Alma to pray over your fields..we don't have a field but now we have a garden to pray over..
we borrowed a tiller, did a little more digging in the dirt put in some corn, tomatoes, squash, beets, and radishes so now we'll wait and water and pray and weed THEN we'll hope for the best--you are welcome to any of the harvest...PS the strawberries and raspberries seem to have a come back--the peach tree not so much. but the apple trees seem okay after the cold spring days...

you can never get too many parties

I love birthdays, and I i love parties so I was happy to be included in megan's little party.

seminary dinner/seminary graduation part of dad's calling

this is dad at the seminary dinner for the graduates of this year--the low lights reminded me that we had enjoyed the setting of this gym just one week prior with the canister lights at Jae and Hayley's reception--I think the tent set it off from an ordainary culture hall--
Back to the seminary dinner-we had delicious pasta salad, Teryiake chicken, rice, and desert--this is the part of dad's calling I like best!! seriously now--I wanted to tell you how dad conducted and he did great and how he said a few words--including encouragement to the graduates to follow up with going to institute. On may22 will be the official Seminary graduation. -we were thrilled to have the seminary grads stay for a CES fireside broadcast following the dinner--I learned a lot from the fireside--I'll have to go back and look who it was exactly--but if you get to see it on the computer it was the fireside May 1st it was really inspirational.

Highland Cove assisted living center

this first picture is a home that we used to live in when we brought hayley home from st marks hospital-it was close to where I was going to be going to volenteer helping that day so I slipped by and took and picture -it is near the assisted living care center--so I headed to the center--after that...
below are pic of the assisted living care center where I got to spend an afternoon doing manicures for the women there as part of a spa--in honoring them for mothers day--as I painted their nails they had such interesting stories to tell--Everyone has some story I discovered.
They all love Hayley's influence as she works there and of course I didn't argue when they said she was really great. --it was an afternoon I shall never forget.

on May 5 we got joe and hayley and the parents *(julie, Richard, lynda, bryan) all together and had a wedding party opening night--it was fun
People are so generous, pictured here is a pic of a little dr coat--and to the left their wedding invite, they also got had stitched doily with their name --cross stitched "Families are forever"
candy dishes in the form of a rooster (symbolism of Portugal) lots of kitchen helps--gift cards and $$$$. We were all humbled at the kindness of so many.

So happy for Brad's graduation

Having had such a great visit with brad at the SLC airport I had to post a few Pics
We are so proud of your accomplishments Brad--writing a thesis and graduating with an EDS an masters degree. What a great deal of determination and discipline it takes to do all of that. We are so very proud of you--its too great of a deal to even minimize it with a what about bob line--so we'll just say--CONGRATULATIONS! YOU did it!!!!!!!!!!!

piano music brings me joy

I have always enjoyed playing the piano for my own enjoyment and listening to others play
recently we went to hear Brianne's students play and Brianne do a duet. It was very fun
Good luck to abbie and Anna on their piano recital on May 14 (Sat) they have done well to learn their songs--wish we could have been there--but unable to make it due to health problems of mine

every thing went fine

I had a small surgery proceedure on Fri. *May 13-- peradonist dr daniel Thunell--lifted up the gum tissue scape the bone and stitch it back up basically. the black is part stitches and part wholes in the gums from the proceedure.
-the surgery took about 55 min and he said it went well. But ouch--I was conscious the whole time. the Area was deadened. I hated doing it, but it had to be done. The worse part was when he said 'oh no' (we all know that isn't a good sign)_and when there was literally smoke coming out of my mouth and then out into the air where I could see it from the intense shaving the bone- the smell was the worse. I kept my tears in check--but then cried on Fri night--thinking back on it and being on pain killers that make me sad. I like how pain killers help the pain but I hate how they make you feel emotionally Now today Sat is a new day and all is well--down to just just a regular ib prophen type relieve. So today is better--there aren't that many stitches about 3-4 as they worked on two areas of gum, but they are driving my mouth crazy. Those will dissolve
what the surgery will accomplish is to save the bone from further bone loss and that I won't lose the tooth sitting in that bone. I asked what can I do in the future--(as far a prevention?) they said keep flossing -maybe a water pik? but even then it is an inherited thing so it didn't come completely from Neglect. I'm just lucky I guess. but as bad things go I'd take this over some other challenges--I am good now. Just wanted to explain it all and appeal to your sympathy. (: ha

Third Sunday dinner this Sunday

Hello Family
looking forward to the third Sunday dinner this Sunday--we'll celebrate all the May birthdays
I'm thinking Soups and Sandwiches--and Salads...how's about that. I am preparing one by Stephanie Gertsch in the Gertsch family cook book. a Cheesy potatoe soup (I think we've had it before) So looking forward to that--and we'll see ya when ya get here. I was put in as primary leader for the 18months to 3 year olds. Next week will be the first Sunday I am in the calling so I plan to work up a big appetite.

Dear family--the plans are going forward..for July1 (Fri) and (Sat) July 2--just a one night campover with the "fam"

we'll be renting one or the other of these Water Trampolines |Bounce Platforms and taking a compressor to blow it up--any votes for which one -dad and I are leaning to the aligator as it has the slide --however the large round one has its advantages--as some adults may have to be holding some of the kids on the trampoline part and their would be more room.

dad and I are excited about this and hope that you'll stay on board with us--let's just see how we like this campground--we'll bring some wood and have a fire and maybe even have elflamo ha and make some memories--with the grandkids--then you can go off on your own for fireworks that sat if you want--in appealing to you I don't want to keep trying to sell this outing --however we have put quite a bit of time of orchestrating the scheduling of the place and food and activity
and would love to see it through--- we are not asking for any money--for this outing, it will be dad and my treat--we might ask that you bring your favorite cereals and snacks and such-
that is our plan for now--I need to know back asap to rent the thing--the man has only one of each and when they are rented --that's it--so as long as at least one other family will commit besides just dad hayley and I --then we can go through with it---who knows it might be our most fun outing yet--we won't know till we try- Love mom
